Walking on Ayr
When the early bird sounds and before the Eastern sunrise has reached the seashore, morning breaks at 4 Ayr Street. A new day begins much like the one before on this still seaside 809m2 sanctuary, with the rise and fall of the temperate tide whirring over the dunes, the great northern vistas summoning attention, and the possibility of what life could be on this blank coastline site.
Indicative of Waihi Beach's most pined for cul-de-sac addresses, this seaside section rests one door up from the water's edge, with its Northern border eternally flanked by undulating dunes. As one of the last available pockets of dune-front land, it's a divine spot from which to create a forever family home. With direct access via a private path, the beach beckons barefooted children with boogie boards in tow, grownups with fishing gear underarm, and the free-range slow riser whose day begins with a dip in the sea. For on-the-water action, sandcastle competitions, and quiet contemplation; this seashore quells all the deep matters. It's an honest Kiwi way of life, like how things used to be.
Staggering views sweep up the beach's northern end, giving visual context to the site. These views backtrack the coastal terrain and lift off toward the region's distant hinterland. It's a backdrop that'll feed inspiration on any new build that comes to be on this desirable position.
A new narrative awaits conception on this site. Perhaps it looks like a permanent beachy residence, humming with the generations, or an anchorage for camping holidays by the sea, a place to recharge, for active and mindful restoration.
Ayr is a dream waiting to materialise.
I shot it, cut the film, and wrote the copy. Sold early 2022.
